Samples

A sample is taking a sample of a population

You take a sample for many different reasons. For example if you needed a blood test to see if your healthy they would take a sample of the population of your blood.

Some examples of sampling is

  • Taking DNA hair piece
  • Seeing if air bags in cars, Test cars

Population means the group

You can tell if your testing the right population if its not biased. Biased would be... When asking people who drink coke if they like coke. That is very biased, you would have to test every one to get an accurate outcome.

You can find the representative sample (right sized sample) by going to this site. Megan and I went in pairs for this activity. Miss C explained random sample, what we had to do was go onto the link above and find out what would be a good amount to take a sample from. We figured that 60% of the class (22 students) would be a good outcome. Miss C gave us 2 pieces of paper, both with the roll on it, we cut out all the names separately on one piece of paper and put it into a hat to draw out. We picked out 22 names from that hat and then ticked of those names on this roll on the other piece of paper. We made up a question we wanted to find out and asked all the ticked off people. We got the percentage and there was our answer.
